so those of you that know me know that i don't love texas. austin has its charms, but i affix all the ills to the state. tops on my list of dislikes is the weather. i cannot stand the hot, sticky weather, and the bugs that go along with it. and those of you here today would say "oh good, so today should make you happy; it's nice and cool". and one would think that yes, that would make me happy, but actually, it just annoys me. yesterday, the high was 91 and today it's rainy and in the 50's - that's just wierd.
but, i did find something i do like about texas: pecans. and more specifically, the two pecan trees in our front yard. our old place had pecan trees too, but i just don't seem to remember them ever bearing fruit. the ones in front of our new house are going, well, nuts. for the last two weeks, pecans are EVERYWHERE. our street has a lot of walkers too, so you'll see people strolling by, then bending down to pick up a couple of pecans. tucker and i have already picked up two big bags, and the amazing thing: they're edible! i thought for sure they would be some kind of mutant, urban pecan, but no, these are like the real thing. very cool.
