it was a crazy friday today, but a good friday. fall has brought cool, pleasant days to austin (finally), and it's really lifted my mood. today cal's school had a little event: they're doing a module on africa, and it culminated today with a drum circle. cal's teacher invited the parents to come be a part of the drum circle and see their kids in "anklets and kente cloth vests". when we got there, the kids were happily banging away on drums, but as each child saw their parent, a switch was suddenly thrown and they became clingy, or had a meltdown, or something. all the happy kids were the ones whose parents weren't there - go figure that out.
then a group of parents went to central market, the promised land for austin families with young kids. i pity the poor fools who don't have a central market. there we hung out under the trees as the kids ran around; most parents with well-deserved wine glass in hand. there's a band every friday night, and the kids capped off their evening listening to beto and the fairlanes. good times, good times.
