one year ago today, i was having breakfast at ihop with tucker and shirley. i started having some cramps, but didn't think much of them, since my friend britt said that she had cramps the day before she gave birth. i was excited and thought: this is it! the baby will be coming tonight or tomorrow!
which is nice because that meant i could still go outlet shopping with shirley and kelly. so i tossed off my rhythmic, pre-birth cramps and headed to the san marcos outlets (about 45 minutes away). looking back tucker and i felt dumb because, hello, rhythmic, pre-birth cramps - can you say "in labor"?? but the pottery barn outlet was calling me! so, off i went. and i still had the cramps. but then they started getting worse. so, at one point, shirley asked "are you doing ok? do you want to do one more store?" and i responded with a chipper "sure!". then a couple of minutes later a labor pain would well up and i said "uh, maybe we should head home". i didn't speak the whole ride back, and then headed straight into the house. less than an hour later, i was in the operating room at st. david's. and less then fifteen minutes from that, cal was born. :-)
pics are in the album to the right. courtney had still camera duty during the cake, and it turns out she needed to be schooled in how to take indoor pics on a digital camera. but we still love her...
